Scouting Report:

Strengths:

  • Possesses the prototyptical NFL QB size at 6’4 220lbs with frame that can add more weight if needed.

  • Elite Arm strength and make every NFL throw with ease

  • Can hurt you outside the pocket as well. Maye has reportedly run in the 4.5s in the forty yard dash

  • Cool under pressure - Drake handles pressure well and maintains solid contact balance and proved that in 2022 when the UNC offensive line was sub-par at best

  • Accurate thrower when given the time in the pocket.

Areas of Improvement:

  • When outside the pocket can be erratic with throws at times.

  • Every young QB can work on progressions and not locking on a WR

  • At times struggled to sense pressure from blitzing defenders

Drake Maye will look to improve on an impressive 2022 Freshman campaign. With the loss of star WR Josh Downs to the NFL Draft, I am curious to see how year 2 running the UNC offense will bode for him. UNC Offensive Coordinator Phil Longo will continue to rely on Maye to run an air raid type offense which stretches defenses both horizontally and vertically.

Drake is currently my #2 QB in the 2024 NFL Draft class and a project Top 5 Pick. Despite the success, Maye still remains raw and has room to mature to be the potential #1 QB in this NFL Draft. The size, athleticism, and overall arm talent has scouts very anxious to see how his 2023 Sophomore season unfolds.
